  4. Die Hard 4.0 : Live Free or Die Hard (2007)

1.

This film is directed by John McTiernan (also did “The Hunt for the Red October” (1990) and “Medicine Man” (1992)), and stars Alan Rickman and Bruce Willis.

NYPD police officer John McClane (Bruce Willis) comes out to Los Angeles to see his (recently separated) wife for Christmas. He comes down to meet her at her new job’s office Christmas party. A European terrorist, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), also comes out to crash the party. However he comes not for the eggnog, but to rob the Nakatome Towers. John sees it only fit to try and save the day. He was the only thing that Hans failed to plan for, and it seems to be a fight to stay alive for John and Hans as well cuase you never know when or who will rise atop in this head on head battle.

This movie is classic action. If your a huge action junkie you will love this movie. It skims over the whole storyline idea, and gets straight to the guns and kick ass action. Some may see it as a empty shell of a movie, but it still has some character building to it, especially in the character Sgt. Al Powell, the random patrol cop who is asked to check out a disturbance at Nakatome Towers and gets thrown into the thick of it and is constantly talking back and forth with McClane.

IMDB gives it 8.1/10

I give it 8.8/10

2.

This film was directed by Renny Harlin(also did “The Covenant” (2006)), and stars William Sadler, Dennis Franz, John Amos, and Bruce Willis.

John McClane is in Washington for Christmas and has gotten back together with his wife who is flying in for the season. He is now a LAPD officer. Col. Stuart (William Sadler) has decided to take over the Washington airport so as to rescue a Gen. Esperanza from captivity. Once again, unfortunately for the terrorists John McClane just happened to be in the building, and he has to save the day. However he has a few new faces trying to stand in his way, Capt. Carmine Lorenzo (Dennis Franz) the head of the division of Washington PD in the airport’s district, and Maj. Grant (John Amos) a military major who leads a special anti-terrorist team. John goes to doing what he does best, kicking ass and taking names later, while his wife remains in the a plane circling the airport waiting to run out of fuel.

The movie still has all the action it needs to be a Die Hard, however it just doesnt seem to mathc up to its predecessor. The terrorist doesn’t seem to get as much depth as Hans got in the first film. So yea. I don’t know what else I can really say about this movie. It just falls short as most sequels do. But if you liked Die Hard you can still check it out.

IMDB gives it 6.8/10

I give it 7.0/10

John McTiernan returns to direct the third installment of Die Hard, and it stars Jeremy Irons, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis.

John McClane is back in the NYPD and having problems with his marriage again. He is presently suspended from duty (for one reason or another). However, Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons), brother to Hans Gruber (remember him?), has decided to take the entire city of New York hostage and play around with McClane all day long. And this time McClane has a partner, Zues Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), a good hearted electrician from Harlem. Simon has placed bombs all over New York city and has placed numerous puzzles and tests for Zues and John to solve. If they fail a bomb will explode in a unnamed school. However is this all Simon is after or is it more?

This movie returns the franchise to its glorious title of GREAT. The action is superb, the villain is great, and the partnership between Sam Jackson and Bruce Willis is great on screen. Maybe the terrorist should always be European? Maybe that’s what was wrong with part 2? Who cares… this one is great again.

IMDB gives it 7.2/10

I give it 8..5/10

4.

This new installment is directed by Len Wiseman (also did “Underworld” (2003) and “Underworld: Evolution” (2006)). It stars Timothy Olyphant, Justin Long and Bruce Willis.

Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) has decided to take the entire United States of America hostage using the internet. After a systems breach into our governments system by Gabriel the government decides to round up all the hackers they know of that could’ve done this. That list includes Matt Farrell (Justin Long), and John McClane (Bruce Willis) is asked to pick him up and escort him to Washington. He goes to pick him up, only to be greeted by numerous hitmen after Matt’s head. Apparently Matt (unknowingly) helped Gabriel create an algorithm over the internet for this attack on the US of A, and now what to tie up the loose ends. So McClane is once again thrust into a onslaught of action to save his nation from some digital terrorists.

Alright, so firstly let’s address the issue of rating, for anyone who has seen Die Hard over the last 20 years can easily say… no kids allowed… rated R. However the studio decided to go with a PG-13 version of Die Hard this time around. Please do not be alarmed, it still delivers, just in a different way. One thing I must say, you probably will see more time of Justin Long and Gabriel typing at a keyboard than Willis being shot. However the action is still great, they had to resort to some kung-fu style action so as to dull down the blood but at the same time keep you enjoying. However I still love it. So go and watch it people it’s all good….

IMDB gives it 8.4/10

I give it 8.6/10
